"MOTHER!!!! FATHER!!!!!" i screamed, hurtling through the air, thrown by my father. I see the dark elves swarm my parents like a plague, and my father turns to look at me one last time...
I wake up screaming as i do everytime. Wiping the tears from my eyes, i see the sun shining through the window.
"I OVERSLEPT AGAIN!!!" i thought to myself, quickly donning my armor and running through the halls. I arrive in the arena, finding Akane showing some new recruits the basic stance of a warrior.
"Hoanglee, good of you to join us, have a good rest?"
Looking down at the dirt, i apologize to him and say it won't happen again, as i've done many times. With a look of understanding, he tells me to get in line with the new recruits.
"Now, you've all learned the basics, we'll see how well you've learned. Hoanglee, you will be the sparring partner for them, since you've been trained more."
"Yes sir!"
Stepping out into the middle of the arena, i take my stance.
"Melissa, you will be his first opponent."
she looks at him in disbelief and quitely whispers,"Yes sir."
shocked that my opponent was a girl, i looked at Akane questioningly. He merely smiled.
"once you have taken your positions, begin."
i draw out my practice blade, as does she. without the slightest hesitation she rushes at me. "what speed!" i thought, as i roll out of the way, and trying to get back on my feet, but before i could even plant one hand on the ground, her blade was at my throat.
I turn to look at Akane, but he is already walking towards the exit, with his back to me. I hear the laughters of the new recruits, and with tears welling in my eyes, i run out of the arena.
Spotting Akane make his way to his office, i follow him, i've always been pretty good at sneaking around without people noticing. i station myself outside his door, and hear him talking to someone.
a strange voice speaks, "so, how is Hoanglee doing?"
hmmm... a bit high pitched, but it can't be a girls...
in a tired voice, akane spoke his reply, "there's been no improvement, he's just not cut out to be a warrior."
"aye, and sadly enough, i can't sense the attunement with nature it takes to become a druid... how unfortunate, and his mother was one of the best..."
OH, it's one of those druids!!! probably a wood elf. He knows my mother?
"yes, and his father was a great warrior... i just can't understand it."
WHAT?!?!? AKANE KNOWS MY FATHER?!?! why didn't he tell me that???
but before i could barge into the
room and demand some answers, i was dragged into a corner of the hallway,
covered by shadows.
"Hoanglee?" whispers a voice.
"who are you???" i whisper back.
"Hoanglee, son of Jin and Lisala, you will die..." and with that i heard a blade unsheath...
Knowing i was about to die, i tense myself for the blow.
"and so you know, before i deliver you the message from my master Innorruk."
i can tell he was enjoying this, but the name Innorruk held my ear... something about it seemed so familiar... but before i could think anymore, i felt the blade press against my throat, and at this moment, i knew whoever this was, was enjoying watching me suffer. the blade slowly slid across my throat, and i could feel my blood slowly seep out.
without a warning, i felt the would be assassins body go limp and lean on me. the last thing i remember was a strange purple haze lighting up the dark hallway before i fall unconcious upon the ground, from the loss of blood...
"the wind is warm, it is such a beautiful day." my mother says with a smile, gazing around at the surroundings.
"aye, that it is." my father says gruffly, carrying a large knap sack.
my mother pulled me closer to her and asked me, "hoanglee, look around you, tell me what you see?"
"i see... i see..." i stammer, not knowing what to say, i've always had the trouble of not knowing what to say.
"tell me the truth, not what you think i want to hear song." my mother says sternly, with a look that mothers have, where they seem to know everything.
"well... i see... i see adventure, i'm sorry mother." i stutter a little in stride when she stops.
she turns around at me and looks at me for a long moment, then smiles brightly and says, "never be sorry for being true to your heart son, always remember that."
my father laughs and says " haha, now lisala, this is a day for relaxing and fun, stop filling the boys head with that nonsense."
"and who are YOU to say that? you, lugging that big ugly piece of metal you call a weapon" she says with a giggle, and conjures up a gust of wind to knock my dad on his feet.
"Hahaha, so you want to play do you." he chuckles, as he gets to his feet and rushes at my mother, sweeping her off her feet. "it seems you and your magic still don't have enough to keep this old warrior down" he says, as he kisses her on the lips.
"come here son, make this brute of a father put me down" she says as giggles, as she playfully tries to get free.
laughing, i jump at my dads waist, and tried to wrap my arms around him.
"ho ho ho, what is this on my belt... why, it's a little cub." he says with a smile and picks me up with one hand."well, there is only one place for you." and with a gentle toss, he places me on his shoulder.
i laugh as i look down upon my parents, and at this moment, i realized how much i loved them.
putting my mother down, he gazes
around "but really, you know how dangerous these areas are now, since those
damn followers of innorruk have
pronounced that now is the time of the end. the bunch of crazy bastards."
"JIN! don't use that kind of language around little hoanglee!" my mother said scoldingly.
"i'm sorry, but you know how i feel about them."
"and i feel the same way, but remember, we can not let that change the way we live, or otherwise, they will know they are winning."
"aye aye, but still, something about the last battle, the way those dark ones fought... with such blood lust..."
"yes i remember, but we won, let it go at that."
"who is Innorruk?" i ask, as i look at my parents in wonder. "they seem so wise", i thought to myself.
"he is no one son, he is no one." my mother says, stroking my hair gently.
"bah! let us forget all this nonsense, today is a day for fun, so lets go." and he takes off at a gallop with me on his shoulders.
i laugh and i see my mother cast a spell on my father, and he seems to run twice as fast, and i look back as i see my mother catching up, her black hair flowing in the wind.
"ah, this looks like a good place" says my father, putting me down.
"yes, this place is lovely." my mother says with a warm smile, looking around.
my father takes off the knapsack and starts setting up the the food we brought along. my mother casts a bright spell on me, and says "run along now, but you stay close, and don't get in trouble! and especially stay away from those freeport militia, i don't like them..."
well i start to run off, and realize
that i'm running as fast as the wind. "wow, this is the spell that mom
cast on dad." i think as i enjoy my new found speed, and just soaking in
the sights.
